Weather alerts on the map, without blurring the official source

Official alert text remains an official product

Alert names, timing, affected areas, descriptions, and safety instructions come from National Weather Service products. RR Weather presents that information in the local dashboard and on the map while keeping the NWS source visible.

RR Weather may determine whether the point you selected falls inside an available alert polygon. That location check helps organize the display; it does not modify the geographic scope or legal meaning of the original alert.

Warnings, watches, advisories, and statements stay distinguishable

Different NWS products communicate different hazards, levels of urgency, and kinds of guidance. RR Weather preserves the product name instead of flattening every message into a generic “weather alert.”

Read the full alert for its exact timing, affected area, hazard description, and recommended action. The headline and polygon are a starting point, not a substitute for the product text.

Radar context is useful, but it is not the alert

A radar return can help show where precipitation or storm structure appears relative to an alert polygon. It cannot tell you that an alert has been issued, extended, replaced, or canceled.

Forecast commentary, experimental arrival estimates, and other RR Weather summaries use different language from official alerts. Derived guidance should never inherit the authority or visual treatment of an NWS warning.

What to verify during active weather

1. Open the full alert. Read the official instruction, affected locations, start time, and expiration time.
2. Confirm your location. A nearby place name does not always mean your selected point is inside the official polygon.
3. Check freshness. Network failures and upstream delays can make any internet display stale.
4. Keep another warning channel. Follow local authorities and official emergency notifications when action is required.
